“Kelly – Last fall during the 2013 deer season my father and brother and I made the trip out to Glasgow MT to hunt mule deer with Burke Ranch Outfitters on the Charles M. Russell Wildlife Refuge. Our experiences during that unforgettable week of hunting were absolutely wonderful. We stayed with Leroy and Vicki in their guest cabin where the meals were served hot and the fellowship was genuine. We couldn’t have expected a better camp which made our time together at camp easily as enjoyable as the hunts. Also, not enough can be said for Vicki’s cooking, nobody went to bed hungry that is for sure. The hunting was right off the doorstep as we rarely traveled very far to find deer including our time spent boat hunting which was new to us but loads of fun.
The scenery was beautiful and even though the deer numbers were down compared to historic populations Kelly and Johnny guided us to good deer everyday on the hunt. We were challenged physically and mentally and emotionally by the terrain and the elusiveness of the mature bucks we pursued but in the end we dug deep and went home with three trophy Mule Deer bucks. My brother Travis shot his best buck ever on the second day of hunting, an exceptional buck scoring in the 170’s while hunting out of the boat. On day 4 Kelly and I walked from camp a few miles over looking the brakes above the lake where we were rewarded with a tank of a buck that measured 28 ½” wide. But the most memorable hunt on our trip was on the last day we watched our father make an incredible stalk guided by Kelly to make a shot on a mature 4×4 buck.
All in all it was an amazing trip that exceeded our expectations in all aspects of the trip. For anyone thinking about making Burke Ranch their next outfitter they should know that Kelly and his staff showed us that they were willing to go the extra mile each and everyday to make our hunt everything it could be and more.”
“Archery elk hunting with Kelly Burke at his Burke Ranch Outfitters is a trip I look forward to every year. If you want to see elk then this is the place for you. Not only do you see elk but Kelly always puts you in a position to take a shot, in my case as close as 20 yards. I have spotted and stalked, sat in a blind and hunted out of tree stand during my hunts.
The accommodations are also world class. You sleep on a cot in a wall tent as elk bugle all around you, then you wake up every morning to a hot cup of coffee and a warm breakfast prepared by the “Camp Cook” Bob Baileys. Dinner is always a meal to look forward to as Bob cooks something up special to satisfy any appetite, and we re-hash the days hunt. I will be hunting with Kelly and Bob as long as I am able and welcome into their camp.”
